Chapter 5 - The Law of Consistency
“Motivation Gets You Going – Discipline Keeps You Growing”
1. Do you know what to Improve? Get out of your comfort zone and keep learning. As E.M Gray Said “The successful person has the habit of doing the things that failures don’t like to do. The successful person does not like doing them either, but his dislike is subordinated to the strength of is purpose.”
2. Do you know how you are supposed to improve?
- Match your motivation to your personality type.
- Start with the simple stuff. Do not attempt too much as you will get discouraged.
- Be patient.
- Value the process. Learning will take a long time, so might as well enjoy the process.
3. Do you know why you want to keep improving? You must have a strong why. Find your ‘Why’ and it will push you along.
4. Do you know when you are supposed to improve? The obvious answer is Right Now, Today! Learn and change something daily. This disciple will keep you growing.
Be Consistently Productive. Ernest Newman said: “The great composer dos not set to work because he is inspired, but he becomes inspired because he is working.”
Now apply these principles and align your methods of motivation with your personality type. Use whatever personality profile you want to study – Myers-Briggs, DISC etc. Once you know what makes you tick, then you can develop a growth system that speaks to you and will make the journey easier.
Value and appreciate the process. Make a list of everything you like about personal growth and use it as motivation.
The more ‘Whys’ you have, the more likely you will be to follow through. Think of immediate benefits but also consider the long-term benefits.
