Chapter 6 – The Law of Environment

If you are at the head of the class, then you are in the wrong class. The best place to learn is always where others are ahead of you. It’s possible to change without growing but it's impossible to grow without changing.

To be in a better place for growth consider the below 6 choices:

1. Assess Your Current Environment – Are you looking forward to what you are doing or are you looking back at you have done. If the future looks dull, routine, or confining, you may need to start looking to make changes.

2. Change Yourself and Your Environment – If you don’t change both, your growth will be slow.

3. Change Who You Spend Time With – This one might be obvious, but a lot of people don’t change it. 95% of your success of failure in life depends on the people with whom you associate with. This group is called your ‘reference group’ and you can’t grow if your reference point does not change.

4. Challenge Yourself in Your New Environment – To learn from people, or new tasks ask the below questions:

- What are their strengths? This is where I learn the most

- What are they learning now? This is how I can catch their passion

- What do I need right now? This helps me to apply what I learn to my situation

- Who have they met, what have they read, or what have they done that has helped them? This helps in finding additional growth opportunities

- What haven’t I asked that I should have? This enables them to point out changes I need to make from their perspective

5. Focus on the Moment – The changes we want to make in our lives come only from the present.

6. Move Forward Despite Criticism – Do not wait for a change in the environment, cause the change of environment through action. It is your responsibility to take the initiative and create such an environment.

You need to find out what nurtures you and surround yourself with these things. Ask the below questions:

What songs lift me?

What ideas to speak to me?

What experiences rejuvenate me?

What people encourage me?

What activities revive me?

What spiritual exercises strengthen me?

What dreams inspire me?

What blessings activate me?

What recollections make me smile?

What have I read that changed me?

Significant growth will not occur in your life if you are not continually challenged in your environment.
