Chapter 9 – The Law of the Ladder
To Be a Success, Think Like a Success
You must build your Character. James Kouzes and Barry Posner have spent over twenty-five years surveying leaders in every type of organization, in which they ask, “What values, personal traits or characteristics do you look for and admire in a leader?” In almost every survey conducted, honesty has been selected more often than other leadership characteristics.
Character matters so you must focus on being better on the inside than on the outside, as the inside influences the outside.
Follow the Golden Rule – Treat Others Like you want to be treated. People Matter!
Passion Matters – Tech Only what you Believe.
Perspective Matters – Value Humility above all Virtues. Unlike what Tom Hanks said as
Forest Gump, life is like a box of chocolates. It’s more like a jar of jalapenos. What we do today might burn our butts tomorrow!
- Always keep the big picture in mind
- Recognize that everybody has weaknesses
- Be Teachable
- Be willing to serve others
- Be Grateful
Strive to Finish Well – Stay Faithful
Build your Character daily and improve the inside.
Regularly serve others and put aside your own agenda. “Service above Self” as the motto of Rotary International states.
